Highly Sensitive
It is first quite important to note that The Megatrend III is a very highly sensitive loudspeaker – over 100dB into 6 Ohms @ 1w 1m – allowing end users employing amplifiers with as little as 15w per channel to achieve full-range performance, lifelike dynamics, and nuanced subtlety without compromise. And yet, The Megatrend III has such tremendous power handing that it can deliver over 129dB with a staggering 4,800 watts of musical power. Deeply Affected
It is rare that reference loudspeakers available today delve into the authentically infrasonic (sub-20Hz range), however The Megatrend III is quite naturally able to deliver unspeakably profound sub-bass performance. The key here, as differentiated from other loudspeakers that attempt to plumb these depths, is that The Megatrend III performs this feat of strength with the very same wide-band drivers, 24 x 8″ Flexfoil woofers in pure open-dipole arrangement, that handle all of the music up through the lower-midrange … and it performs this peerless feat with distortion levels that are almost immeasurably low. Dipole Ribbon Line Source
The Megatrend III utilizes Bo Bengtsson’s finest ribbon line-source, 80″ tall (4 x 20″ units, each served by its own magnet structure), with strong neodymium magnet structures to ensure effortless control, low distortion, and high sensitivity. Able to project coherent, 3-Dimensional, vastly deep and wide soundstages with unmatched transparency and dynamic realism, these wide-range ribbons are a connoisseur’s dream when it comes to replicating the full-scale and life-force of music – from the small, nuanced performance of a folk singer strumming an acoustic guitar to an entire symphony orchestra with full choir (think: Mahler’s 8th).
Not For The Faint of Heart
The Megatrend III stands at 80″ tall, 38″ wide, with a base plinth at 24″ deep, meaning it won’t be a good idea to try and shoehorn these speakers into the guest bedroom. An appropriately-sized room is recommended for installation.
